I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.'

And he replied "go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'

So I went forth and I asked of the man before putting my hand into the hand of God
'Are you sure you don't have a light?
Maybe a torch or something?
I'd just feel more comfortable if I could see where I was going.'
The man at the gate of the year just shook his head.

So I continued. 'What if God doesn't have a torch?
Isn't that the blind leading the blind?'
And when the man didn't answer I became a little shirty.

'Look "man at the gate of the year" I pass through your gate every dozen months or so.
Every time you tell me to put my hand into the hand of God and he doesn't even show.
I'm sick of it!'

That year I found my own light. Not only can I see my own way,
But it's much easier for me to search for God.
